Imagineering Concepts

Some of my absolute favorite things to model are old Imagineering concepts that never got past the sketch stage. I feel like I am giving these ideas a second chance at life and educating/inspiring people to bring their own ideas to life. In the real world, these ideas couldn't be built because of things like budgets, lack of space, or even physical or technological limitations of their time, but thanks to the latest in 3D modeling technology, we can see these concepts brought to life, seen in photorealistic quality as they would look if they were actually built.

Tomorrowland Store

In 1954, Walt Disney was eager to show off the amazing features of his upcoming park, Disneyland. As a perfectionist, he didn't want to show construction of the park and there were no photos of completed components. Instead, he showcased several concepts in the first episode of Walt Disney’s Disneyland, including several sketches by Disney Imagineer and artist Bruce Bushman. While the Tomorrowland building in one of his sketches never came into fruition, it is still a piece of Disney History as one of the first glimpses of Tomorrowland given to the public. This model allows viewers to see the original concept from new angles and with photorealistic textures.

Great Moments at the Movies

The Great Movie Ride was widely considered to be one of the most iconic rides in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with its wonderfully unique combination of sets, animatronics, and live actors. Before it was The Great Movie Ride, it was originally called “Great Moments at the Movies”. Back then, The Great Movie Ride was only being considered as part of a pavilion in EPCOT Center, but the idea kept getting bigger until it blossomed into an entire new park, so you can thank The Great Movie Ride for the entire existence of Hollywood Studios. One of the earliest concepts for the ride was an entrance sign created by Imagineer John Dury. As a commemoration of such a beloved attraction, I thought it best to bring to life one of the earliest ideas for the ride. The model is based off of John Dury’s sketch which can be found in the book: A Portrait of Walt Disney World: 50 Years of The Most Magical Place on Earth.
